Pahalgam, Kashmir, India

Pahalgam is a world famous hill station which is 95 kms for Srinagar. It is located on the banks of river Lidder at an altitude of 7200 ft. from sea level. It was once a tourist attraction and a favourite place for shooting of Bollywood films. A number of treks in this region also begin from Pahalgam, as the 35 km trail traverses through pinewoods to the spectacular Kolahoi Glacier. Three main sites in Pahalgam are : Chandanwari, Betaab Valley,(so called because the Hindi film Betaab was shot there) and Aru valley.

Enroute, Green tunnel is a famous stretch. Lidder river offers great views and very famous for the river rafting.







Green Tunnel:  While travelling from Srinagar to Pahalgam, a stretch of 2 Kms covered with tall poplars standing erect on both sides of the road. So dense are thsese poplars that apart from providing soothing shade , barely do they allow sunlight to pass through them . This stretch is famously known as GREEN TUNNEL.

Mini Switzerland (Baisaran Valley):  This is a lush green meadow surrounded by thick forest. Accessed only by a Pony ride and has a similar meadows like Switzerland due to which it's called mini Switzerland.



Aru Valley:  Aru valley is noted for  its scenic meadows, lakes and mountains.   It is located around 12 from Pahalgam, 11 km upstream from the Lidder River.








Chandanwari:  If you start your trip from Srinagar, this is the first place where you see the snow. Situated 16-km from Pahalgam, Chandanwari is the starting point of the Amarnath Yatra. It is famous for snow sledging on a snow bridge.

At Chandanwari, the Sheeshnag river is captivating with its sheer force and clear waters.

Betaab Valley:  This valley got its name because of its filming in the famous Bollywood movie, Betaab.
It is situated at a distance of 15 kms from Pahalgam. Though it's beautiful from nearby, its best viewed from the top.

Visitors Tips:

1. Pahalgam has so many places around. Better to be covered in two days.
2. Very few places don't have access by vehicle, except for pony.
3. After reaching Pahalgam, go to the tourist taxi center and then decide on places. Don't hear to your cab drivers or the pony wallahs.
